What it means for your advertising
Websites use cookies for settings, logins and analytics. In advertising they help measure conversions and let platforms show ads to people who've visited your site before, known as remarketing.
In the UK, advertising cookies need the visitor's consent before they're set. Some browsers also block cookies set by other websites by default, so platforms combine cookies with other signals. Similar technologies, such as local storage, follow the same rules.
An example
Someone visits Java Roasters' website and accepts cookies. The Meta pixel can now recognise them on Instagram, which is what makes it possible to show them an ad for the subscription they looked at.
Java Roasters is a fictional business, and its figures are illustrative.
How we handle it
Before launch we check that your cookie banner asks for consent to the tracking your campaign uses. If you don't have one, we can add one through the Google Tag Manager tag we set up. Our privacy guide covers what you need in place.
