What it means for your advertising
Search results have two parts. Paid ads, bought per click (PPC) and targeted with keywords, appear the moment a campaign starts and stop when it does. The organic results below them can't be bought: Google ranks them on how relevant, useful and trusted it judges each page to be.
SEO covers what makes a page rank: content that answers what people search for, a clear structure, a fast site that search engines can read, and links from other reputable sites. Results build over months rather than days, and no one can guarantee a position.
Two newer terms are defined against it. AEO is about being chosen as the direct answer to a question, and GEO is about being mentioned in AI-written answers. Most of the groundwork is shared.
An example
Java Roasters runs Google Search ads for “office coffee delivery manchester”, which show from day one. Its office coffee page, rewritten to answer the questions office managers ask, climbs the organic results over the following months, so the same search can show both its ad and its page.
Java Roasters is a fictional business, and its figures are illustrative.
