What it means for your advertising
It's the AI search counterpart to SEO. AI tools draw on what's written about you across the web, so clear, accurate information on your own site, consistent business details and mentions on reputable sites all help.
GEO overlaps heavily with AEO, and the two terms are often used interchangeably. Where people do draw a line, AEO is about being chosen as the direct answer to a question, such as a featured snippet or a voice reply, and GEO is about being mentioned or cited within a longer AI-written answer. The same groundwork serves both.
No one can guarantee a mention. Answers change from one conversation to the next, and the tools don't publish how they choose their sources. Treat GEO as a long-term effort, separate from paid advertising.
An example
Java Roasters publishes a clear guide to choosing office coffee and is listed in a respected roundup of UK roasters. Over time, AI answers about office coffee in Manchester become more likely to mention it, though none is certain to. Its sponsored card is a separate, paid way to appear beside the same answers.
Java Roasters is a fictional business, and its figures are illustrative.
How Digital Gurus helps
When you advertise with us, our experts review the site your ads send people to: the accuracy and clarity of what it says about you, how easy it is for an AI tool to quote, and how consistently your business is described elsewhere. You get specific suggestions for what to improve. We run paid advertising, so this is advice alongside your campaign rather than a separate service.
